Personal Protective Equipment required for the safety and well being of workers

Personal Protective Equipment

All companies must take the right decisions regarding personal protective equipment procurement and distribution. A sound and foolproof PPE strategy is to be formulated and adopted by the personal department. The number of accident free man hours can compensate more than adequately the expenses incurred for providing.

The number of accidents occurring at workplaces is on the decline due to the habit of usingpersonal protective equipment by the workers. Many business enterprises may find the satisfactory provision and distribution of PPE as a difficult proposition. The number of man-hours lost due to accidents can affect the smooth functioning of any industry.

PPE strategies

1. Provision Of PPE
The primary responsibility of the employer is to provide necessary Personal Protective Equipment to the employees at free of cost. The PPE given to the workers must be suitable to workplace as per the risks that are identified. The design and constructional features of PPE should assist the comfortable use of them by the workers.

2.  Compatibility
In certain instances, combinations of PPE equipment or clothing may affect the effectiveness of each other. For example, you cannot use eye protection in combination with a breathing apparatus.

3. Assessment Of PPE
Risk assessment exercise should be carried out according to norms. Periodical risk assessments are to be performed to make sure that all PPE supplied are suitable for the prevailing work environment.

4. Storage of PPE
All personal protective equipment must be safely stored and protected. This is more important for items like safety knives.

5. The Use Of PPE
The regular use of personal protective equipment by the workers must be confirmed by the supervisors and managers during their site inspection. Men’s work shirts are also part of PPE.The management and the supervisory staff should insist the wearing of Mens Work Shirts by the workers while they report for duty.

6. Defective or loss of PPE Policy
The company should have a crystal clear policy. It should have a set of guidelines to report personal protective equipment that is defective or to intimate any loss of PPE to the immediate supervisors.
